Are you on the lookout for a new scuba dive regulator, or in the market to upgrade your regulator? We’ve been using the Aqua Lung Leg3nd range for one year now and are excited to give you a full review on these regulator and let you know everything about your potential new regulator.
Aqua Lung LEG3ND Range
Aqua Lung’s range of ‘Legend’ regulators have been around for years, continually improving and developing, and their latest range ‘Leg3end’ brings us 3 high-end regulators ranging from £520 – £650 which offer industry-leading features an design. We dig deeper into which Leg3nd is right for you and what we love about them.
Aqua Lung Leg3nd
What they say: “When performance is your highest priority, LEG3ND is the answer. The LEG3ND shares the same breathing characteristics with the LEG3ND ELITE and LEG3ND MBS. The familiar venturi switch now features an updated and ergonomic design. Overmolded with “soft touch” elastomer, the ergonomically designed switch perfectly controls the venturi effect, either allowing or containing a natural freeflow.”
What we say: A great high-performing regulator with extremely easy breathing, light weight and exceptional cold-water performance, however if you have the extra budget we’d suggest upgrading to the MBS or Elite for even more features and an investment into a world class regulator.
Price: You can buy the Aqua Lung Leg3nd regs in most dive shops and retailers, we checked out two online retailers with worldwide shipping and found it for £608 for Leg3nd regulator and a matching Leg3nd Octopus at Mikes Dive Store and also £608 at Scubadivestore – if you are a Girls that Scuba membership holder you also get 10% off at Scubadivestore so the set would go down to £547.
Notes: When buying the set it usually doesn’t come with a pressure gauge, so make sure you either add one you already have or purchase a new one. You can choose between DIN or Yoke.
Recommend to which kind of diver: All divers to be honest, while it may seem too “high-tech” for a new diver, it’s not, it’s well made and works exactly how any diver would want it to. The only thing that may put a new diver off is the price tag compared to others you may see on the market – however, anyone that has tried the Aqua Lung range knows it’s worth every penny and designed to last.
Aqua Lung Leg3nd MBS
What they say: “The first inhalation under water is the start of a new adventure. The revolutionary combination of Venturi effect and inhalation effort adjustment is natural and intuitive. Aqua Lung’s Master Breathing System allows divers to control both in one simple rotation. All depths, all conditions, all dives – MBS will adapt.”
What we say: The Aqua Lung Leg3nd MBS adds an all-in-one inhalation and venturi adjuster to the second stage, optimising both settings as it is moved to from minimum to maximum. All other features of the regulator remain the same as the standard regulator. The price difference between the Leg3nd and the MBS is £87 and it is defiantly worth the upgrade for the adjuster.
Price: You can buy the Aqua Lung Leg3nd regs in most dive shops and retailers, we found it for £695 for the Aqua Lung Leg3nd MBS Stage 3 Regulator set which includes the Master Breathing System (MBS) version of the high performance Leg3nd regulator, paired with a Leg3nd Octopus. You can check for your local Aqua Lung supplier here.
Notes: When buying the set it usually doesn’t come with a pressure gauge, so make sure you either add one you already have or purchase a new one. You can choose between DIN or Yoke.
Recommend to which kind of diver: Frequent divers and advanced divers looking to dove different environments. The MBS is high-performance and built to last and the price reflects that. A worthwhile investment for passionate divers.
Aqua Lung Leg3nd Elite
What they say: “The LEG3ND ELITE gives divers unprecedented capabilities by providing perfect precision and enhanced ergonomics at your fingertips. Advanced divers appreciate the independent micro adjustments to fine-tune their own individual breathing preferences.”
What we say: The King (or should we say Queen) of the range. Leg3nd Elite uses the same high performance, cold water rated first stage as the other standard and MBS versions of the Leg3nd. Where the Leg3nd Elite differs is the second stage. Whilst the housing remains essentially the same across the Leg3nd range, the Elite has individual diver controls for the inhalation effort and the venturi whereas the MBS version features a combined control and the standard version only gives control over the venturi. The second stage features an oversized heat exchanger on the hose inlet for improved cold water performance, a modified front cover for better protection and comfort when diving in strong currents and a new quick release mouthpiece clamp that allows tool-less changing of the mouthpiece.
Price: You can buy the Aqua Lung Leg3nd regs in most dive shops and retailers, we found a full set with a gauge for £825 – The Aqua Lung Leg3nd Elite Stage 4 Regulator Set includes the Leg3nd Elite regulator with both inhalation and venturi controls, a matching Leg3nd Octopus, and an Aqua Lung pressure gauge. You can check for your local Aqua Lung supplier here.
Recommend to which kind of diver: The first-class of regulators. The Elite is for divers who LOVE everything about dive equipment and want the best of the best. While the Elite has everything you need, as a new diver it isn’t necessary to have all of that and may be a reg to build up to.
The verdict
There’s no doubt the latest Aqua Lung Leg3nd range are among the best regulators out there on the current market (2020-2021). All 3 are extremely high quality and while the Leg3nd and the MBS offer fairly similar qualities, the Elite really is the gold standard of regulators and any diver would be not only excited but proud to own one! It’s also worth giving Aqua Lung a shout out for their suitability efforts and eco-friendly headquarters, you can find out more about their environmental responsibility here.
